Parenting and Working – My Tips

I wanted to do a blog about my favourite subject – my son, Luca!

I get asked all the time how do you do it? How do you run a business and be a mum? Both jobs are hard and both jobs come with their fair share of responsibilities and with it, guilt. Mum guilt for answering an email when you know he wants you to concentrate on the good dinosaur, and work guilt as I’ve missed a call from a potential client however the game of cars is just far too important to deter away from.

I love both of my babies, Luca and Social Allies, but below are some helpful tips I have learned along the way.

Client calls with a baby – I am lucky enough to pick who I work with now, and all of my clients are really brilliant, so a lot of them understand that Fridays are Luca day. They are happy to have him talking away in the background. I even changed a nappy once and the client did not flinch. She had children herself, and basically said, “Do what you have to do.” Happy days.

Luca Fridays – I am lucky enough to spend my Fridays with Luca. I try not to use my phone when he is around so when it’s tea time we eat together and I work at night. But Fridays are our days and it helps with mum guilt. Work can wait until the night.

Sleep – I can’t sleep a lot of the time. I’m constantly thinking of new ideas or overthinking a small problem, but we all need our sleep and after having a baby I really appreciate my sleep, Luca didn’t sleep for the first 17 months so I hired a sleep therapist and it’s the best £150 i’ve ever spent. Sleep deprivation is the worst – you can’t function without it and I have learned routine is key. So if you can sleep train in any way, even just to get a few hours of sleep, do it!

This is NOT a preaching blog. This is just one parent trying to help another.
