Work Experience At Social Allies

We have had Maisie for work experience recently. This blog was written by Maisie during her time with us. Hear what she had to say: What we did and what I learnt. To start off, on Monday, the team welcomed me, and I then set up. We then went into a Social Allies’ team catch-up where we went through everything that was going to be happening during the week and what the team had been up to. This was good to look at because it gave me a look at what I was going to be doing in the week ahead. After we had gone through what the week consisted of, I went through the Social Allies list of clients.  I then went through some of the clients to see what the team were doing for them. I learned about what they post on the client’s Instagram page and what platforms they post for each client. I found this really interesting because I got to have a look at how they do this for the clients, and I also found out a lot about them by looking at their social media platforms. After I had my lunch, I researched marketing trends that are happening on social media and what posts are doing well. I found this interesting because I got to learn about what posts were doing well and what was making them do well. I found this fun because I got to go on TikTok and look for any new trends for the office staff. I found some really funny and relatable ones that helped me learn what it is like to look for new trends that could be used for social media platforms. On my second day (Tuesday), I arrived and got settled in. I then helped Caitlin take headshot photos of Jess for her profile. When doing this, I learnt how to take headshot photos and hold the camera correctly as I had never taken professional pictures before. I found this really fun and interesting. After doing this, I then got the privilege to go with Jess and Caitlin for a meeting with a new client. By attending the meeting, I learned what it was like to be in one, as I have never attended one before, and I also learnt what the plan was for their new client and their social media. This was also very interesting because I felt a part of the team.  After this, we returned to the workplace, and I wrote an audit about Social Allies. This included things like what they are doing well, and what I think should be improved. I learned about what Social Allies do and how they advertise on social media with the content they post.  I also learnt about how other marketing agencies do things on social media. This is good to look at because I now know how to advertise on social media, and I got to voice my opinion on what I thought about social allies’ posts, also making me feel a part of the team.  At the end of the day, Caitlin went through the work I conducted throughout the day and gave me great feedback. On Wednesday, I got settled in, and the team welcomed me again. I then started to conduct some research about cyberbullying. I learned how cyberbullying can affect people and ways to deal with it, beauty standards and how harsh social media can be. Jess and Caitlin also gave me the idea to look at the Dove campaign which I didn’t know about until I conducted this research, so this was really interesting. I then looked at different celebrities who had been through cyberbullying, and I found out lots of interesting facts about their story that I didn’t know.  After finishing my research, I created a blog about cyberbullying. This was very good because I had never written a blog before, so this was a very interesting thing to do. Once I had completed my blog, I again showed Caitlin my work, and yet again gave me very good feedback and made me feel really good about the blog and research I had done. On Thursday, I got settled in and brought cakes, doughnuts and a card in for me and the team (that they really enjoyed) since it is my last day, and I will be working from home tomorrow. We then got straight into a team meeting. During the team meeting, we spoke about what was going to be happening today and what had happened during the week.  Me and Caitlin then went next door to the Wolviston group and took pictures of their team and their cakes since they are doing stuff for charity. I learnt about what Wolviston’s job is and got another chance to take some photos again which was very fun to do. Me and Caitlin then arrived back at the office where we looked at some funny TikToks to create with the team.  We then made the TikTok’s together which was very fun, and I really enjoyed doing this. We then took a team photo which I liked because yet it again it made me feel a part of the team.  After we made the TikTok and took the photos, we then had lunch and I got on looking at TikTok and Instagram reels about charity shops to send to a Hospice to see if they want to make. We then put them on a media sheet.  Caitlin then went through my blog with me and gave me some good feedback. Altogether I have really enjoyed my time coming to Social Allies for my work experience and I have learnt how to do a lot of things and learnt about what it is like in the workplace.
