Publishing to Social Media: Joining Team SA

I joined Social Allies last month after my stint as a Social Media Associate for a children’s publisher came to an end. Having studied an MSc in Publishing in 2020, hellbent on working in the book industry, the world of social media had only ever been a fun pastime for me before this. I enjoyed keeping up with trends, following fun brands and checking in on my favourite influencers, but the thought of pursuing this as a career had never crossed my mind when I was choosing my degrees. Yet, from the first time I created a social calendar, envisioning a month’s worth of content in advance, I just knew that this form of digital marketing was the one for me.

As the newest member of the SA team, I work as a Social Media Manager, covering all platforms from Facebook to Instagram, LinkedIn to TikTok. The latter, in particular, has kind of become my project baby. After all, if I’d never sent that initial short form video, paying homage to a particular song as a long term ‘Swiftie,’ the road to joining Social Allies may have panned out differently.

TikTok, as a platform, was something I enjoyed from afar for a while. I loved how curated the ‘for you’ page (FYP) was, and how each video was just long enough to keep me from scrolling, but I never thought I’d actually post a video of my own on there. This was, until I did of course.

After one TikTok had turned into several more, I realised that making videos was more than just choosing a song and recording some footage. It was a way to express my personality, challenge my tendency to go back into my shell, and express my creativity through more than just my writing.

So, whether it be a video or a written post, I can’t wait to see where this role takes me and share more of my journey along the way. Here’s to an exciting, content filled year ahead. I can’t wait for you to see what we have in store for Team SA.
